How to Stay Focus When You Have too Many Ideas

How to Stay Focus When You Have too Many Ideas

I often do what's called a brain dump for my blog and business, where you think of all of the things you would like to do and write them down. The other day I found myself just sitting and staring at my idea list. How many of you have been there? Since I’ve developed a system, I was able to snap out of it and prioritize which ideas to keep and which to store away for another time. Don't let your overload of inspiration be the reason you're not getting things done!

Here are ways I am able to focus when I have too many ideas:

KNOW YOUR WHY

“If we want to feel an undying passion for our work, if we want to feel we are contributing to something bigger than ourselves, we all need to know our WHY.”
— Simon Sinek

Are you looking to draw traffic to your blog? Do you want to gain more clients? Do you want to grow your social media presence? Whether you have been in business for a while or you are just getting started, dig into the WHY of your business so that you can move forward in a clear direction. Take the time to sort through the serious questions as to what drives your business, find the reason behind what you are doing. Ask yourself:

  1. Why is this important to me?

  2. Why am I drawn to this?

  3. What type of impact do I want to have?

ORGANIZE YOUR IDEAS

“the combination of your WHY and HOWs is as exclusively yours as your fingerprint.”
— Simon Sinek

Keep your ideas in one location. After you've compiled your list of ideas, take a systematic approach and rank your ideas. Try to rank them from the best ones to the worst ones. Also, you can rank them from the most important to the least important for your business. Are any of your ideas unaligned with your current life and business goals, if not move it to a "low priority" category. The items that remain should be aligned with your business goals, they should be 1) aligned with your life and business 2) have an objective that leads back to your why and 3) is actionable.

The bottom line is, if you're going to move forward, you have to pick a direction.

“The goal is not simply to cross the finish line, but to see how many people you can inspire to run with you.”
— Simon Sinek
