How to Layer for Cold Weather

The base layer which is the underlay piece. Ideally, this layer should be a light long sleeve base layer such as a turtleneck or a shirt with a collar.
The middle layer should be insulated and fit comfortably over the base layer. This is an excellent time to introduce different textures. It can be anything from a vest, denim top, blazer or cardigan.
The outer layer which is the shell layer can be any type of coat, jacket or even vest.
Layering in the cold weather, in general, is all about balance and proportion. What are some of your favorite layering pieces?
